Before purchasing a Rottweiler puppy, there are many items that you need to consider. The average lifespan of a Rottweiler can range from around 10 – 14 years. The annual cost of owning a Rottweiler can be upwards of $700. You also need to consider if you able to take adequate care of your Rottweiler for its lifetime.
To assist you in making the correct decision about purchasing a Rottweiler, please consider the following:
- Do you have time to exercise, groom, train and play with your Rottweiler?
- Do you understand dog behavior and the importance of pack structure?
- Will you have enough money to provide food, shelter and veterinary care for your Rottweiler?
- Who will look after your Rottweiler when you are away?
- Do you rent and are you permitted to have dogs?
- Is your property large enough for a dog?
- Have you checked with your local Council to see how many dogs you are allowed?
- Can you appropriately confine your dog to your premises?
- Remember, Rottweiler puppies grow-up to be large adults weighing around 40-45 kgs (females) and 45 – 50 kgs (males).
- Will you still have a place for a Rottweiler in your home should your circumstance change (change of employment, children, other pets, change of residence)…remember pets are for life!
